I've run both a hugger head and a CIH and after running an CIH 1063 I would never go back to the hugger. At anything over 3mph the hugger left all the stalks standing. The knives on the CIH snapping rolls do a very good job of chopping the stalks. Am planning to trade the 1063 for a 1083. I also have a brand new Bish adapter for a R52 to fit a CIH 1083 that I don't need if you are interested. Not sure if you would have to modify it for a R72.

Hey we run a 8-30 hugger head on a R-62 and can go 5to6 mph and doesn`t leave stalks standing.Of course you have to speed up your var feeder. We have ran red and yellow heads and had far less maintenance with the hugger heads. My choice would be stay with gleaners head.

A Hugger gets my vote. Very little maintenace and they are a good low profile head. A couple of years ago in down corn in very dry conditions my Hugger was the only brand of head able to run without a reel. Still not sure why others would not feed in but I know I had no problem and they were stopped.

The only time I found that my hugger did a good job on the stalks was if they were frozen or very dry. Have you added blocks to your snapping rolls. Since I got rid of mine I've heard that a lot of guys have had blocks machined and added to the hugger snapping rolls making them do a better job on the stalks. As for maintenance I think that all gearbox heads require similar maintenance but I have found the CIH very easy to work on.

There may be heads as good as the hugger but not better then them. I have had 2 on my 72. A 8-30 and now a 12-30. I have oiled and greased them and run them.other then fixing the chain on the auger. That isnt much in 10years. Illinois Gleaner

Hey don't get me wrong, I'm a Gleaner man thru and thru, having had 2 C2's, 3l's, 2l2's, R52 and now C62, but I've never found corn heads to be a strong point, once you try a red IH one you will never go back to a hugger. Anyway it looks like Agco is going to a single cornhead for all of their combines and it looks like it is the one they were selling on the Masseys.

Brian the only head I would put on the R72 is a 12R Hugger i would get a steel head if possible. Poly doesnt feed as nice in down corn

You are wrong about the new Agco cornheads as they are all Huggers now although you can still buy the older Massey cornhead if you want it. As far as grinding up the stalks, Huggers can do that with ease if that is what the operator wants and adjusts the head for it. No reason to run red or green heads on them. Kelly

OK Kelly, I'll bite on this one: How do you adjust the Hugger to grind up the stalksIJ I have run the Huggers enough and I absolutely would not be using Geringhoff now if I could have ground up the stalks all the time with the Hugger. Especially when stalks are real dry, and we push ground speed, chopping stalks became mandatory, even if roll irons are near new. What did I missIJ
