Combines Wanted Header for Sunfloweres

I would look for a bigger header than that. 20ft. would be the smallest that I would recomend so you can keep machine full enough to do a nice job cleaning them up. I run a 27' on an R7 with 9" pans and ususually cut the field at an angle. That way you dont have to worry about rows, just keeping the header full. lucke Manufacturing in Minot ND makes 12" or 9" pans and the dividers for the ends that will work on any combination you decide on. I would have to agree. The combine needs to be kept full to get the flowers clean. And the pans made by lucke work real well.

Couldnt I just drive faster to keep the combine fullIJ And is keeping the combine full as necessary with a l2 as it is with a rotaryIJ Cutting the field at an angle intrigues me. Are these fields planted in rows with a planter or solid seeded with a drillIJ

You could drive faster but the guys around here that run l2smostly have 24' headers with 9" or 12" pans. When the flowers are dry (8 to 10%)they can run with hydro ahead in 2nd gear and with 20'header will definately runwide open.If the machine isn't full you will get a lot more sticks and head chunks in grain tank.Air foil chaffers work great in flowers.I have seeded them both ways, rows and solid seeded with an air seeder.I prefer rows because you still have cultivation as an option for weed control. The 9" pans dont follow the rows as well that is why I cut diagonal.Solid seeded crops can be cut any direction. Good luck
