Hey O.C. Basically your going to have the same combine except for the cosmetics and lighter tin. So with that said look for all the wear spots on your 8820 that you are familiar with to start off for the particular 9600 you have in mind. Also, I'm not certain about years after 93 because of updates since mine's a 94 and still has 10,000 dollars worth of updates that can be put on it. I would suggest though stay clear away from rigid headers in the 89 90 and 91 era. Not sure about 91 for certain but in 89 and 90 they had a feeding problem and I have never heard of one yet that was corrected. Some say they have.....I know the guy I worked for that had one we liked to went nuts changing everything over from auger extensions to more and less fingers and different augers speeds changing the gear on the end. NOthign worked......they finally loaded the piece of junk back onto the dealer. Also, that I'm aware of....Mainly higher houred corn machines.....underneath the floor auger on the left side of the machine for the grain tank the flooring wears out and you'll have to weld a patch on there. I've welded and put in patches on the backside of my machine on the sides from cracks. Make sure that you have the updated crank bearings for the walkers....those are a headache if you don't. The end bearing on the return auger that dumps the matter back on top of the cylinder on mine is out....look underneath the cab after hopping up on the right side tire and you should be able to see it. If not, they havn't done a good job of cleaning the machine....that area under there will plug solid and it is one dirty mess at the end of each harvest. I'd sure scroll down the list here and read all you can read.....there have been many more numerous posts ahead of this one telling what all else to look over and look for. Good luck.....Just take your time.....it's easy to get swindled. Deerebines
