Combines waste gate 2388

Pierre, I have mine turned off. I thought I was short on HP when all I needed was to upgrade to a Stewart Steel-AFX rotor and all the new vanes and ect. I actually turned the fuel back down. It will make a difference if your wastegate is not working properly. However if it is ok now there is no reason to turn it off. It will smoke a little more on startup and respond quicker when you engage the machine but it will not add horsepower. The cap will have the fool proof star studs holding it. I think if you will JB weld the worn cap it will be fine. There is also an adjustment on the govenor that will make it much more responsive and add some HP. You will have to work with a Cummins mechanic or a CNH man that has some spirit left in him or her. Don't mess with anyone of these if you have some warranty left on your machine. Clean fuel, clean air filters, and clean, clean air to air cooler in front of the rotary screen should be all you need. There is a venturi in front of the air filter that really needs annual attention but seldome gets any. If all else fails a turn to the right on the fuel screw will put more fossil fuel into the beast. Any JD man will tell you how to turn the android off. It used to be a must do on the green tractor if you wanted to drop the plow in the ground any less than maximum RPM. Be careful, have fun.

We thought our 2388 was low on power and we found a hole similar to what you are describing. The hole won't let the pump read boost from the turbo and will not give it the fuel it needs for full power. Plugged it with J-B Weld and it ran like it should. A mechanic at the dealer said there are diaphrams in the anaroid and on the wastegate that can go bad and cause low power but I forget how many psi they should hold.

If you have a leak, it will not only affect the aneroid, but it will also keep the wastegate from staying closed. To back off the aneroid, you have to loosen the "star wheel" so the spring will not keep it from adding fuel. You will have to fix the leak for it to work, because it will need some air pressure to work.

The diaphram in the wastegate of our 2388 went bad this fall. This was early in the season so I may be off a little on the figures but it seems that the mechanic said ours was 5-6 psi and after installing the new one it was 23 psi. Sure made a difference in the machine. He also said that most dealers either don't know about the diaphram or never bother to check, just turn up the pump. he said that they normally replace around 5 per year and the other stores in the chain don't even bother to stock them.
