First, vines are really tough critters. They draw deep from the well of horsepower and if your beans are heavy also, it is double trouble. I am sure your custom cutter is talking about turning the android valve off. This will eliminate the waste gate effect on the pump which regulates the fuel response. It will cause it to smoke a little on start up and when you engage the machine but will not be like turning up the fuel, which I don't reccommend. There is also an adjustment to the govenor setting. It is a bit more delicate and should be done by your dealer, with Cummins' guidance. I experienced the same power drop as you last year and with these two little tricks the machine really had more "zip" but what I really discovered later in the shop was the elephant ears were worn out, the front vanes well worn, and the rock trap needing some new bars. I fixed that with a Stewart Steel Excellerator, Off market AFX. That will fix the whole problem and turn it into a super machine. I can't remember which way to turn the screw on top of the pump but I am sure someone else will chime in and direct you, or your mechanic will help you out. I doubt if he will turn the screw but I think he will talk to you. A 2388 in your situation should handle viney beans at 3-4 mph and in clean beans 4-6 mph. With the AFX-Steward Steel, there is no rumble and it takes less horsepower. Make very sure your air to air radiator is very clean. This will really starve your horsepower since the air will be hotter coming into the engine. It takes lots of water and time to clean it right. I also slip the rotary radiator screen back so I can get a better angle at cleaning. Becareful with the screen. That bugger is heavey. Good cutting to you.
