Hey Chads, farm kid 2 has built a spacer of some kind on the back of his machine. Maybe you could post for him and see if he can send you a picture or two. He's got some huge tires on the back and he has done some research on what brands to the best in different conditions.

Assuming you have the same Mud Hog we have, you can get 28l26's to fit if you space the motors back. When the right tire is turned into the return auger, it also gets closer as it moves upward. To accurately see how close your tire is, you need to take the left tire off and jack the right one up in the air until the axle stops make contact. You may find that things are closer than you think. To my knowledge, the biggest tire you can get on there without doing modifications is the 18.4-30. Marvin Gorden has a set on a 1680. luckily, the modifications are quite easy and I will get you the info if you want to do it. Mike

Hey Yeah, any info you have will be helpful. This is starting to look like a long slog. I found a set of 23.1 x 26's(R2),off of a 715, I think , that will work on the hub. Feel free to email farmerchad@socket.net.

What about a 48-25-20 flotation tireIJ They would be roughly the same height as your current back tires but would be 25" wide. I know they would be harder to find and more expensive than the 23.1x26 but it would be better than tearing up your return elevator.

Yeah, I thought about that, but the tires and wheels would be about what the combine is worth! If I could find a used set it would be one thing, but I don't see that as being a very good possibility. Chads

The 4WD units need as much clearance as possible on the inside of the rim. Even if a 20" rim would clear, I doubt you could turn the wheels very far. I would consider 26" about the minimum.

chads put 23.1-26 on rear of 2188 last season you will have to extend rear axile 6 inch it takes 2- 1 inch plates on each side of frame 2 more spacer plates longer bolts steering hydro hose extended about 8inches I'll send you some pics

Just in case you havent done it, you might drop a little air out of your tires to help with the flotation. When we get into mud, we lower our air pressure and it helps the combine stay on top of the ground Keep in mind that you dont want to lower it too much since you need the pressure to carry the weight. We only do this if we have a few acres left to harvest. Just use some common sense like avoiding carrying excessive weight (eg. dumping with only half loads). Safe Harvesting Everyone!
