We did seed beans for Pioneer for many years, with a Deere 8820, and with various Gleaner R's. I used to give talks to Pioneer seed grower meetings to get them thinking about the harvest and general settings they should use. I would not put more wedge to the concave than the grain settings. Preferably you should have the return to cylinder option that allows you to run slower cylinder speeds without getting too many unthreshed (wet) pods going around the return and overloading it. Generally the overriding consideration is that cylinder speed cracks beans. Running more wedge would probably result in needing more cylinder speed, and probably wouldn't be helpful to power needs. I always (for corn and beans) use filler bars in the first 2 or 3 rows of the concave, which actually helps grain quality in both corn an beans(with moderate cyl. speeds). It helps because you have grain and trash threshing grain instead of COlD HARD STEEl threshing grain! To get the best sample for seed beans, you should expect that you will use more power overall, and will get some less acres per hour than "running them through" for elevator spec. delivery. Hope this provides some help.
