Combines Weld problems

Yes we have a '99 R72 and have re-welded the top and down the side of the feeder house on the right side. We run a 1230 head so they blame it on the weight of that head. I also have trouble keeping the plastic slides in place on the tilt. Kurt

The mechanic at the dealership showed me the new throat that was going on the combine.He ground out the factory welds and rewelded,said there was no penetration.In your case the combine should have no problem with a 12 row head,after all its an option,their excuse was lame if that was the reason.Mechanic told me its been a problem since 98,somebodies not making enough inspections.

Interesting to hear Agro still has a welding problem. We had a 9190 that lost all hydraulics due to poor welding. About 1cent more brass and the company could have saved several thousand dollars. This unit blow with less that 100 hours. We still run our R50 that cost us over $8000.oo due to poor welding on the concave. You could see that it had only been tacked in a few places,but because it had about 1000 hrs and 8years the company and dealer just laughed at us. We also found other poor welding, but those had very little costs or down time. Gerald

It wasn't the weld as much as it was the speed they tried to run pump at. If it wasn't the pipe breaking it was the cast piece that holds the pipe. They eventially just slowed pump back down like smaller machines and problem was over. Some of them machines have over 10,000 hours with little repairs other than a clutch or two. I'm sorry about anyone laughing at you for asking for help on a concave that had week weld. It wasn't that long ago that you had one year to requist warrentee let alone eight years. It would be interesting to see how the rest of concave ect. looked at time of failure. Take care

Dan have you seen any weld problems on the throats on later 62's and 72's.Dealer told me most were wheat combines with 30' tables.Agco didn't think there were enough to justify updates.Here its the ones with 8 and 12 row cornheads.

No problems hear. Only looked at one so far but during normal exams I look over machine very close and havn't caught any failing. I have saw these machines nearly do cartwheels while roading and in field so can see how this stuff fails on some machines and never on others. I can't tell if welds are good or not but I see no reason they can't weld all the way around that plate. It probably a machine doing the welding and it maybe wasn't see right on some machines. Have you ever seen anybody obey the 10MPH speed limit that some of these machines and books have printed. I have never seen lateral tilt on these machines and wonder if it was there mount that failed. It is likely different then rigid feeder. I see pedistal type mounts on feeder that are becoming standard for '04 and I see them putting more load on welds of rigid feeder and maybe that is the way they allready are on the lateral tilt machines. I'll sure keep inspecting that area and if we ran 12 row heads I would likely just finish welding around!!!! maybe!!! I'd hate to be the last one welding in such an important area but I suppose I've taken a lot bigger risks over time!!

Youre right about the speed.On the lateral tilt,it not the tilt but the rigid weld on the throat that fails.Going to reweld mine this winter,isn't cracked or broke, but its not welded right.
