Combines welding on 2388

dannyboy, I've been to several combine training meetings for custom harvesters put on by CaseI-H ProHarvest, and they have stressed at every one to disconnect the ground cable from the battery if you ever have to weld on the combine. They say there is always a chance that you could fry the computer if you don't. By the way, what needs to be welded on a 2388 in first placeIJ K.A.

We have welded on just about any piece of equipment what is out there and never disconnected any battery nor a computer. We have not fried anything yet. Just watch that your ground from the welder is very close to your welding spot.

We never unhook the batteries when we weld on computer equipted equiptment. The only thing that we unhook is Neihoff Alternators. It's probably a good idea to unhook the batteries on everything, but so far we've never had a problem with computers. The outfit that rebuilds our alternators said to never weld with Niehoff's hooked up as they will puke every time. It was right after welding on the header that it died. So we have unhooked them any time we weld since.

dannyboy..play safe..disconnect the batteries..normally you will not have any problem but with more and more electronic equipment coming on to our mahines it is a safe practice to get into i see in one of the posting about keeping earth lead close to the place been welded this is good advice saves welding bearing to shafts etc..we are always welding up our 2388's wish case would use real steel or thicker would be nice

Use to not disconnect batteries on sprayer and had monitor problems almost every year. Since I started disconnecting batteries no monitor problems.
