My own .02 cents. I'm not a fan of John Deere for many reasons but a big reason is that they have the most moving parts. Case IH has the least. Also Gleaner really isn't that bad of a machine. Its been awhile since i've delt with one but they are a good unit. So I would look into a Case IH first and Gleaner second. The main factor to your decision should really be dealership distance and service. As i said in the begining my its my own .02 cents. Good luck.

i've had green, red, silver, and currently back on red. one thing about the green..the first thing to wear out in the steps leading to the cab, and to work on them involves a small army. that's ok if you have alot of kids to help!. the red ones seem to have the nicest dealers, they will listen to you when you have problems and offer helpful hints to help solve the problems. the silver ones are by far the easiest to work on if you have to. i still have my old silver ones, only reason i went back to this red one was the price. and i always wanted a rotary because i can get in the fields sooner when condions are tough! gleaner also make a great rotary combine!! my .02

Gleaners and CaseIH make some great harvesting machines. Simple designs and easy access to work on them. Since you said a good used machine, I think you should, or maybe you already have, check with your local dealers to see which one of them is going to offer you good advice, service, and parts. Combine machines are no better than their operators who run them or whoever does maintenance_repairs on them. When asking a question on this site, it may also serve you well to be more specific on your needs for this used combine. Which crops, how many acres, what $ do you want to spent for it and which type machine are you interested in - rotary or conventionalIJ

All the brands are good if they've been maintained. The Gleaner and Case-IH are easier to work on.I'm very partial to Gleaners.Dealer service should also be considered along with parts availibility.

My opinion is buy the color that has the best parts_service support in your area.

another thing to think about....gleaner has been producing combines for about 77-78 years, john deere about 52-53 years, and i don't know how long ih or other brands have been producing them. my .02
