When you added clover seed you narrowed your choices. The F series would be the right choice. The solid concave bottom is the only way to get a good job of threshing on small seeds. The only reason I still have my F2 is we still run some clover seed. Make me a good offer for my F2 and I won't raise clover seed anymore. Whatever you get get a clover seed screen for it.

The older E gleaners would do it. They usually ran a 10ft header and 2-38 corn head. They sell for $400-$1500 at auctions. The K gleaner is a little newer than the E and has a better cab, some have air conditioning. They usually ran a 12 or 13ft header and 2-38 or 3-30 inch corn heads. They sell for around same price maybe just a little more than the E. Both of these are 3 straw walker machines, gasoline engine, and do an excellent job in the grains you mentioned. A little bigger machine for about the same money would be the F gleaner, it is a 4 straw walker machine. They might bring more money because they are a good 4 row corn head machine and they did built them with the allis chalmers 301 cu in diesel 2800 engine - good motor. Other engines in them were older AC 262 6cylinder gas and newer General Motors 292 6cyl gas, also good motors but like their gas! The F gleaner also was available with a hydro transmission. You can still get most parts for any of these machines from your agco_gleaner dealer. Great machines - easy to work on and simple designs that give good grain samples in corn, soybeans, and clover. Good luck, Eric(Il)

Tell him to get an R 72. He could get it cut in a day and have the rest of the time to spend with his lovely wife.

I would recomend an M series or an l series. they are easy to work on and come with a variety of heads for a reasonable price.

How much do you have to spend and what is your row widthIJ If you have $10,000 in the budget a good F2 with 15' series 2 flex header and 4 row head would work out okay. The F2s have a 4 cylinder turbo motor that uses 3 gallon an hour or less and has plenty of power. If you have $15,000 in the budget a good M2 or l2 with a 320 flex and A630 would work out. If you went the l2 route you would have enough machine to cover more acres in the future or get what you now have harvested easier in a four hour day if you work off the farm.

For the money a late 80' or newer F2 with the four cylinder turbo charged diesel, hydro and hydraulic unloading auger. low hour machines of this vintage can still be found and not many big boys want that small of a machine so you can get allot of machine for not much $$. Heads and parts are easy to find and the machine is a dream to work on. Pete Hinrichsen

just watched an M2 sell on a farm auction this week, this machince looked like new! was very well taken care of, had all the options plus, it sold for $3800 w_o the heads. i used a G and a K for many years on my 320 acres, i still have them, but bought a rotary combine last year for $5000. since i went to 6-30's. gleaner combines can't be beat for easy maint. and reliability!! i've owned deere and IH. that old G combine was a 1000 times better than the 6620 i had!! and it was a gasser!!
