Start with settings in the operator's manual. I haven't run a 9600 but the older Deeres do a good job. The main thing is to cut down the wind (fan speed and fan opening). I've sometimes put additional restriction on the fan intake to reduce the wind. Too much blast will likely blow a lot of the seed thru the machine. Check the chaff for seed going over. An old neighbor use to say "a bird would starve behind my machine" - slightly overstated but you get the point! Straight cutting of the crop is better than windrowing as the pickup will draw in the entangled swath and can "wad up" and lead to slugging in the cylinder. Hope this helps. Good luck

I forgot to mention the bottom sieve. I don't know what your corn machine has in it ( corn is not thrashed up here). If it's an adjustable lip sieve, set it almost closed and check your return and sample. You should be able to remove most of the curly pods. A fixed sieve needs to be about 0.100" (7_64ths)

You have to change the precleaner elements as well as the sieve to the permanent perforated type, the smallest opening available from deere. I cant remember the exact hole size. Another rule of thumb hay seed is like lead seed, its HEAVY, i usually dont let my hopper fill more then two thirds full due to stress on the chassis and tires blowing out. Better safe than sorry. Youll notice the weight when you hit the unloader wide open. Good luck, As my dad says make sure all the squigglies are all thrashed.
