Combines What do you think of the 9600

We have had a 9600 for 2 seasons bought it with just under 2000 sep hrs we did spend some time on it as we put in feeder chain sprockets bearings cyclinder bars concave straw walker cranks and bearings new elevator chains bearings and sprockets. Now all we do is drive we havent had 1 hour of down time in 350 hrs just love the thing

This year we had no problems and we got it running a lot faster and smoother than it was. We have 2250 hours on it and it is still a good solid machine. Overall, we've been pretty happy with the 9000 series, especially compared to the 8820's we used to run.

Skinny Got a question for you. Did you replace the walker bearings in your 94 model or update themIJ I have the aluminum housings on mine currently that get greased daily. I've replaced everything else that you have on only a little over 1000 seperator hours on a same year machine but I was wondering about the walker bearings. How do you tell if they are worn outIJ I had one off last year to do some repair welding on the side of the machine where it cracked out and they looked good still........not really knowing how to tell for certain though. No severe scarrings and all the grease galleries were still apparent. Have you had any engine trouble with yours yet at allIJ Towards the end of Milo harvest this year I started experiencing low power at times when I'd get to pushing the machine....to the point it would slow the cylinder down and make the buzzer go off. The harvestrak said I wasn't pushing it anymore than i should and when I went back to look at the ground it was the same scenario. I'm beginning to wonder what might have been wrong.....It's been haunting me a bit lately. Can deere put a computer on those engines like cummins and cat and tell what's wrong with it if anythingIJ Sure do love that machine....I liked my 6620 but I love that 9600. I'm going to run the wheels off of that combine....weld them back on......run them off again before I get a new combine. Deerebines

I found the 9600 are very under powered when you really give it to it. The the new 50 sereies headers won't be much better because although they have a bigger motor there also a bigger machine. I'd like to see a 50 series motor in a 9600.

To see if the aluminum walker bearings are out you just have to push the actual walkers around to see how much they wobble or slide back and forth, and then use your own judgement from there. The back bearings were easy to replace with two guys: it would be an understatement to say that the front ones are a nightmare. If you get claustrophobic you should probably have the dealer install the front ones for you! In normal conditions, I've never noticed too much of a power loss. In mud, when you're trying to go back and forth,it can seem low on power however. I tried out one of our custom cutter's 9610's last year and I think that its engine is suited a lot better for the capacity of the 9000 series combines.

Your Question about losing power when nothing changes could be a bad injector we had this problem on our 96 9500 put in new one problem fixed.

Something I forgot to mention: last wheat harvest we had frequent power losses. It turns out that junk such as chaff, dirt, and small pieces of the lining of the fuel tank on the 9600 were restricting the flow of fuel from the tank. We had to drain the entire tank, clean it out and put a new pump on, and the filters right under the tank.

9650 walker and 9610 have the same 8.1 motor. The 9610, and 9650 walker machine have drive improvemtents, but are the same thresing area as a 9600. The locals do like the extra HP, better yet with good clean fuel filters.

I think the 9600 is one of the best combines ever made we have 3 of them that are getting close to 5000 hrs. with very little problems. Just the usual maintenance and repair.
