What do you all use as cover crop? I like using oats because they can grow under a variety of conditions. They also suppress weed growth. I also like that I can let my chickens roam the garden to eat some of the oats when they're ready.
I use bin wheat from a area farmer due to cost. I add clover, turnips, radish, or brassieca and drill or broadcast into mowed cornstalks. I am in the process of no-till planting ground that has been tilled for decades, 2020 will be year 2 on some ground and year one on a field that was fallow last year due to Pigweed infestation. Time will tell if the chemical program has worked.
It depends, but I often go with clover because it's a nitrogen fixer, it grows readily, and it's good for forage. I don't have cattle or I'd pick something else.
