Here in North Dakota a standard rigid head with sunflower pans (9-30 inch) and some sort of reel are the standard SF harvest gear. Most have an extra header with SF pans permanently attached because it is a lot of work to add or remove the pans. I use a neat little quick tach unit built by Faul MFG of Harvey ND. It comes on_off in about 1_2 hour and is a much more rigid and trouble free mounting for the pans.

Ray-Mac 3-way or the old lee-way are far above anything else. Yes I have used them all.

How does this work differently than bolting the pans on IJ let me know---Thanks P.S. How much does it cost. We run a 24 foot with pans.

The Faul quick tach is a square tube as long as the header is wide. It has bracket's aprox 12 inches long that extends from the square tube forward to hook over the guard points and has a flat plate on top to mount the pan. 3 chains with threaded rod adjusters and hooks run from the square tube center and ends to the header rear to hold the assy on the guards and clamped firmly to the bottom of the header. The end dividers and reel are mounted to the end of the square tube so by removing the 3 clamps you can back away from the whole assy. Its been many years since I got ours,but I seem to remember a price of $1000-1500

Add fender extensions and a back screen and the JD row crop is best for sunflowers. Deere doesn't sell the row crop sunflower kit anymore, but if you can locate one, fabricate a copy.
