Combines what s 1680 worth

That 1680 has a lot of good hours left in it. I would look at the cleaning system for weakness. The bushings in the shaker assemblies are probably ready to replace and other than that I think the machine should be sound. I purchased one a few years ago with the 466IH engine and it is still running strong. I will add that a rock destroyed the insides at 1800hrs and it was completly rebuilt with 2388 parts. I have added many updates, rock trap, unload system, monitor, 3 chain feeder and whatever it needs at an annual inspection. The engine has been bumped up some and it runs great with a 30 bean table.It has about 3K hrs presently and in still a good machine. The hyd. system is slow but in comparison to your 1480 it will be great. The price is a bit on the strong side and without seeing it and assuming it is still running origional equipment and that it has a short shoe with IH engine I would think it is more in the 30-35 thousand range in the market place. Remember it is an old gal and the value will be salvage only pretty soon unless you plan on keeping it. Everything new will fit on this old machine including the new style chopper and field tracker. Good harvesting.

If you're upgrading, I'd sure look for a long sieve machine. The one you're talking about doesn't have it.

I bought a '92 for around 30k and my neighbor bought a '91 for about the same last year. Without the long sieve you aren't going to gain anything but a nicer seat. Everything before the 1688 seems to be selling pretty cheap. They are a great powerful machine for the money.

When did they start putting the long sieve inIJ How much longer is it; and is it that much betterIJ It seems most of my loses are out the back of the rotor. I looked at a 2188 at the Expo yesterday, and didn"t see a whole lot different than the 1480, other than the fan. Diddn"t look hard at the machine especially in the cleaning area, and I didn't climb up on it.

sometime in '90 or '91. I guess it depends on your crop, but the long sieve is a must in grain sorghum. 13 inches sticks in my mind, but I'm not certain that is correct.
