Combines What s the difference between a corn bean 2388 and small grainIJ

I would call a grain machine small wire concave, slotted grates, 4 seperator bars, and smooth feeder drum. Corn_Bean large wire concave, keystock grates, 8 separator bars, and stone retarder drum.

Basically the same except for different gear ratios in the first and second gear. Slower in the corn_bean.

Don't have my book within easy access and it makes a difference if you have the two speed hydro too. Road gear is the same, second somewhere 1.5 mph.

The Rice combine comes with the slower gear ratio. For example, with 30.5 tires it runs 6.21 mph in 2nd vs. 7.34 mph. The Corn and Grain machines can each be ordered with the Rice gear ratio as an option, but neither comes with it standard. That's it says in the operator's manual anyway.

So it's pretty much as I thought it would be - some relatively simple changes to go from corns_beans to small grain. The one thing that I thought might be different would be the sieves. The reason I ask is that I was looking on equipmentlocator.com and noticed several American combines that were considerably cheaper that what we see in Canada. Even taking the dollar conversion into account I can't see why I can find a 2388 in MT that's $90,000 CDN less than one in AB. Of course, there maybe some options that aren't listed, but $90k for similar hoursIJ

I don't know about you guys in western Canada but here in Ontario you really have to watch out for western Canada and midwest USA combines. For a 2388 in western Ontario you want straw chopper, AFX or specialty rotor, automatic header control, rock trap, rock drum, feed reverser, corn sieves, 30.5-32 singles or duals, 4WD, bubble up auger, and field tracker. Many western combines are missing several of these options. Many midwest USA combines are missing the rock trap and rock drum. The only areas outside here that seem to have all these options are in central Ohio and eastern Indiana.

FYI - Our 2188 is optioned with custom cutter package, rock trap, stone retarder drum, chopper, specialty rotor, AHH, AFS and reverser. No field tracker or 4wd. Most every farm in the west half of Sask has grown lentils and probably every farm in Sask has grown peas. like soybeans, both require giving the ground a close shave. That's what made me wonder about the difference between a small grain machine and the corn_bean unit in the first place.
