This is going to hit some nerves here but the real truth is the DEREGUlATION of the Chicago Board Of Trade by or beloved (former farmer hating president) Ronald Reagan, later it was found that inside trading was going on under the Bush Admin. by the FBI and the investigation got stopped by an executive action. To keep the population quiet they need cheap food and the farmer is the minority and the easiest to control, so we take it in the shorts. If the SEC were to regulate CBOT like Wall Street was then we might have a chance. But Ronald Reagan hated the farmers and destroyed the whole ag economy unless you were very large and corp. and even some of those went as we well know of AC and IH. We had several of our farm state Reps trying to put the Regs. back on CBOT and too many were only able to see and say Yes,Mister President, so blame Reagan and Your Reagan YES men for this mess. To end this "We are now in trouble with the EU and the WTO because of stuff that was done in the Reagan Admin." this is direct info from the AP off AOl within the past month. Thanks Ronald!

It does not take long for a farmer to see where the money for food is going when we visit the grocery store. The price for corn flakes, flour, milk, meat, bread well you know. The farmer does take the smallest amount from the food chain, but let the market go up a few cents and the farmer gets the blame for higher prices. I went the the store and got a 20 oz box of corn flakes, cost $3.15, now let do the math. 20 oz is 1 and 4 oz. so the cost of corn flakes is $2.52 per lb or $141.12 per 56 lb bus. Now I know there is some work goes into the raw corn to make flakes, but I get $2.09 per bush. and Kellogs (oops name drop) gets $141.12 per bushIJIJIJ You are correct "WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE"

I agree totally. Ronald Reagan was quite possibly the most destructive man in the history of this nation to American farmers. His sec. of agriculture; John R. Block was no better. He put the screws to any governmental program that would benefit the small family farmer and give the benefit to the grain giants. (ie the taking of the storage program from the small farmers in the 1980s and giving it to ADM and Cargill, etc. More and more farmers are finally beginning to realize that they shot themselves in the foot by voting for Reagan in 80 and then blindly re-electing him in 84. In my opinion any farmer who votes Republican richly deserves this present farm economy, the trouble is that they are dragging all of us that can see the light down with them.

I agree totally about the CBOT screwing not only the American farmer but also the Canadian farmers as well. Now for the million dollar question. What can be doneIJ What can the farmer do but lobby and complain to deaf ears and the consumer thinks the farmer is to blame when a box of corn flakes goes up a few lousy cents they think it is the farmer pocketing all the money, what a joke. If all farmers were to cut back production a small percentage then we would all thrive when the CBOT realizes the stockpile is dwindling, the CBOT dosen't take any of the risks to produce the crops but controls us, this does not make sense and really irks me that they control us like puppets. What should we as farmers be doing to combat this problem of low pricesIJ I sure would like to hear all or any answers or concerns.

History 101, Remember in the late 50's when the NFO organized and halted milk from going to the dairies and it was considered COMMUNISM at the time and our Republican President sent out the National Guard and forced the farmers to produce and market the milk. The UNION people tell us that we are too dumb to organize and get a fair price and I remind them of that time in history and they have no response. The Republicans only regulate the farmers and agriculture to keep the price of food cheap so the masses will vote for them and be happy. Historically the farm economy has been better with the Democrats in control, this is pre-Reagan, look at the records!

Get government totally out of agricultural and let the world market dictate prices just like oil, automobiles and blue jeans. We don't need government support we need free markets. You can't blame the republicans for that. We have too much carry over and we are too productive with the limited export markets we have. Open up the exports and quite creating a welfare state known as agriculture. This might be a painful lesson too learn but maybe it needs to be taught. How about farmers trading directly with buyers in the world market and forget CBOT all together. look at Enron on line for example.

So if it took that long for it to take effect,The good economy that the rest of the country is having is due to the former administration not the current rightIJ Because when those other administrations ,that you spoke where in power I had alot better prices then I have now. John Ferguson

We need to go back just a little further in history than the Regan years to find one single act that hurt grain prices to the grain embargo.
