Combines What to look for in a R40

hey bob, look under the posts below as you say you have done and you will get a pretty good idea. Cyl. bars 3_4 in. and extending them is biggest thing for capacity along with taking every other wire out of all grates. The r40 is the size of an l2 and with what you can find here maybe more. Go over it with a fine tooth comb. look at splines on clutchs for feed chain shafts and slip them off and grease splines...ANY QUESTIONS ASK...

Definately read through the posts here on upgrades and mods. If anyone needs them, it will be you. We started with an R40 after running conventionals, and traded it for an R50 after half of a season due to the fact that our 40 was so short on power - couldn't keep her going. If I'd have known about these mods and how they can reduce hp requirements, we'd have probably kept the 40 for awhile. Good luck!!
