Combines What was the first machine you ranIJ

A 750 Massey with gear drive. Sure hated changing those variable speed drive belts. Good in wheat, ok in corn, terrible in soybeans.

Started with an IH 203 which puked the walkers out the back the 3rd day. Went on a search mission to replace it fast and found that the local JD dealer didn't like a CII on his lot as much as a broken IH. The CII served me for several year and while getting parts one day, a nice F diesel with AC ran in front of me and then followed me home. When I out grew it, I was on a mission again to get larger and again the JD dealer wanted my F more than he wanted an M2. The M2 was a great machine until I went on sidehills with a 6-30 corn head and the sidehill blower couldn't keep up with 200 bu corn and was throwing too much out the back. After chatting with my 2 closest dealers they convinced me that rotary was the only way to go and the N6 came home 2 days later. Then I had too learn how to drive all over again. The previous owner had 85% hyperized it and I finised the job. Ever try staying on a row 6-30 at 7 mph in 200 bu corn to keep the rotor full.

'80 N6 was the first machine I drove. We still have it. It had and still has a problem with the high_low pressure system so steering and header lift is sluggish. Fun stuff at 20mph out on the road.

How about All Crop 40 pto unit pulled by B model AC in the early !940's during World War 2

The first combine I ran was a Gleaner EIII back around 1980 when my father turned me loose in a 30 acre field of barley. Since then, I have run a K2 and John Deere 9500 for a neighbor. I am waiting on repairs to an F2 and hope to be running soybeans in the middle of September.

My first stint at combining was with a combine shared by my father and uncle. It was a Massey Harris 80 special. I was about seven years old at the controls and my father was on the ladder.

More of showing age here. First machine I ran,uncle's 101 IH, then on to a a cousin in custom combining business 95R Deere, 105R Deere, 55 Deere, 7700 Deere, 8820 Deere. Machines we have owned and I ran Case 80, Case 960, Gleaner K2 (still have) and Gleaner F (still have). Man that 7700 Deere was a beast when new.

My custom cutter had a major breakdown in October of 79 so I called the local Gleaner dealer and bought a Cll sight unseen. He delivered it to a rented field that required driving down a steep hill to get to the field. We went over the operating details and he offered to ride with me for a few rounds. Everything went fine until I started down the hill and found the brakes didnt work. As the machine gained speed I lowered the head and hit a pile of dirt at the bottom of the hill. That was the end of the Cll. The following day he exchanged a used l for the Cll plus a large amount of money and I was able to finish my crop. I kind of missed the slot in the side of the Cll that you stuck your arm through to engage the mechanism. My 10-year-old son got a big bang out of it too. What was your first combineIJ Tom in MN

My first drive was an N6 Gleaner...my dad let me sit on his lap and steer a little bit. After that he got an R70, and as for driving completely by myself, he lets me drive his R62 alot. I recently bought an l3, looking forward to it and the R62 in the same field. For the first time in years my dad will be able to beat me in a race!
