you have a '74. Yes your sn's are correct. There were 'shortback' 77K2's sitting on dealers lots in late '76. - still called '77's. The next year,1978 the K2's and F'2 had longer straw walkers and cleaning shoes. The K2's in 78 were avail as 4.33T diesel with a different transmission. The F2's also went to the 433I in diesel and and revved up the old 292 GM to 2600rpms. The 78's also went from manual fold to the hydraulic fold unloading augers. Many a dealer who forgot to order the bin extention_hyd fold option was shocked into telephoning fits when the truck or train rolled in with a manual fold setup.

tbran, Thanks for your knowledgeable input and humor. I was laughing at your dealer ordering woes and wondered, would the factory take a combine back to add missing components, or did the dealer just have "specially price" that combineIJ Speaking of price, what did these sell for when newIJ Back on the subject of serial numbers - did the K combines use the similar scheme for sn verses years like that of the K2IJ Example: sn 17201-18200 = 1973, sn 18201-19200 = 1974, 19201-20200 = 1975, 20201-21200 = 1976IJ If so, when did the k combine come into production - 1968IJ 1969IJ I think I have read that the E3 was produced for a year or two, then Allis-Chalmers started producing the K.

1. no they would not take it back 2. they did give us a package to convert it 3. no, it wasn't priced low enuff to get anyone interested with the manual system even when I offered the services of my mother in law to go out and swing it out and in for them. (OK so my MIl isn't much of a 'swinger' anyway. We sold some 77 K2's 4 less than 20 grand after all discounts I believe. 4. your sn_ are right however I havn't checked by the book and 5. Best of my memory - shooting from the hip here - the EIII was made in 68 only by year model. Might have been a few in late 67. 69 was he K intro. EIII was a early K with a G226 AC (D17-gas) 4 cyl engine. later K's had variable speed fans.

My parts book doesn't say that there's a different transmission between gas and diesel K2s. IJIJIJ I just got a salvage yard to truck me a good K2 transmission. Don't know if it came out of a gas or diesel.

Tim, I think the transmission in a the k2 is the same, whether its a gas or diesel. Unless Allis-Chalmers made changes in the later versions (1980 models)IJ I have parts books for the E3_K (Sept.72') and the K2 (Oct.78'). According to them, when I cross referenced transmission gear and_or differential parts, most numbers match except ocassional cabscrews.

I talked with my agco dealer today. I ask him about the K combine years and serial numbers. Here's what he told me from the book you were talking about.
