Combines Wheat harvest and Soybean planting in North Alabama

Good luck on the beans. If we crop behind wheat in east Central IN, we have learned the hard way that we really need to cut the wheat straw as close to the ground as possible which really slows the combine down of course. Sun angle in Indiana only gets to 79 degrees so as the angle drops off after June 21, the standing wheat straw creates too much of a shadow for the beans.

We plant late group IV through late group V maturity beans. They will be harvested around the middle of October. If we get enough mositure they will make 40-45 BU._AC. if planted by June 20. This year we finished on June 9. I am going to put 3 or 4 more pics out tonight. One shows where we rolled the straw before planting beans. We are experimenting with this idea. Most beans in out area are double cropped behind wheat.
