I had the same problem on my 1660 it was overloading the right side of the sieves and running it over the back whe the same setup you have without the coverplates. I just opened up the back section of the chaffer all the way so it would go into the return. No loss after that. I know its probably not the best setup but I plan on running cover plates next year with a paddle on the right belly auger to distribute the material better on the sieves.

Rob, the 1660 is especially sensitive to overloading one side of the shoe if the concave to rotor pinch point is not set correctly. If you are overloading the right side of the shoe there is a very good chance your concave to rotor pinch point is set to far to the right. I don't rememeber where it should be on a 1660 so check your owners manual.
