Combines Where s all the dust coming fromIJ

The crops semed to have more dust this fall than usual. In our area we attibuted this to having a week of wet weather in mid September which seemed to have caused mold or rust to grow on the plants which turned into a lot of dust at harvest. I'm sure you do not have a hugger. I'm not aware that a hugger cornhead was ever made for a conventional combine. A hugger head has enclosed gearboxes to drive the snapping rolls and chains. I believe yours have chains underneath to drive themIJ You might try to slow down the cylkinder RPM to 300-350. Or close down the chaffer some more. Having pieces of cob in the bin can depend on variety. Some varieties break up worse than others.

Your corn head probably is not a hugger unless someone has done a lot of fabrication work to put it on your l.As for the corn cobs, what is your cylinder height set atIJ

Are you getting whole to half cob out your cylinderIJ What I would do with my F2 is measure an average cob and set my cylinder about 1_8" tighter. Is the corn tipped back at allIJ Those tips break off the cob and are very hard to keep out of the bin. Setting the chaffer tighter is about the only way I know if to get rid of them. Another suggestion to get more capacity with a clean sample is to run the first six rows of your chaffer with a separate control rod and then opening those rows 1_8 to 1_4" more and the middle rows a little tigher. This takes advantage of the big blast of air coming off the fan that keeps the cobs suspended and the heavier corn drops through onto the sieve. I'm not sure about the dust coming out on your l2. I had a similar problem with my F2 and I put a larger gear on my rear feeder beater to pull the material away from the cylinder as it was coming back around. Your l2 cylinder is different than the F2. Hope you are enjoying your l2 they a one heck of a machine that can be made ever better with the advice from the Gleaner guru's on this site.

More than likely your slow cylinder speeds have slowed down your seperator beater as it drives from the left hand end of cylinder. they do make diferent size drives for the beater because of this. good luck vstk

If you were to put your lights on top of the cab,so as to keep the glare of the windows the dust will magicly dissapear. Neat eh! good luck.

I slowed the cylinder a little more and opened it up a little,as I did that we also switched to another variety. The cobs have diminished some. I really like the machine and enjoy harvesting crops with it. Now if we could only make a profit.
