Dad had an 8700 w 6 cyc perkins. I thought it was underpowered. It was also a firetrap. When we bought it, it had a new hyd pump from being on fire and we caought it on fire no less than 5 times. One time we called the fire dept, they stuck the hose right up the throat and let loose. It had something on the back of the motor that was always putting off sparks. This caused the bean chaf that laid on the side shilds to catch on fire. You could see the sparks at night. Dad passed away and it sat for a couple years until we sent it to auction this last year with a 4w head and the platform. Always seemed to run good, but I probaly should have kept the insureance up and ran beans for a day and collet the insurance, with no more than it brought at auction.

There was a mid 80's 860 with RWA and 1900 hrs showing, v8, hydro sell around here a couple months ago. I had been purchased from a dealer in southern IN and maybe used one season by the owner. It had a rigid platform 16 ft and an older 63C head with it and the whole thing sold for $7500. Not many Massys in this area anymore. The 550s are smaller machines and many guys would rather run the 750, 760, 850, or 860 for the capacity and they do not cost any more to buy. There are a couple 550s in our area and we ran a 510 for many years. Even had a 6 row head on it. Nearest dealer with any parts is 45 minutes away for me.
