Combines White rotary vs Deere STS

A big White rotary with 500 to 100 horses more would be awesome. No other words to describe it. I have only seen a few and have never ran one but I have operated a 9650 STS. I think at the time the White came out they were just scared to put a bigger engine in it. All combines seemed underpowered from that time. I have always wanted the big White. The 9650 STS Was never short of power in corn or beans but came up short on hard to thresh wheat. In corn the stick was on the dash most all the time in real good corn. I wonder if the White with a Deere cornhead or flex head would outcut the STS.

I totally agree on the issue of the need for maximum Hp ability on our combines. Contrary to what some may think, a larger engine will not cut out fuel economy, but improve it because the load can be handled without working to death the smaller engine. I am truly surprised we don't see a common use of 300 + Hp combine engines. They're not just for 4 WD tractors and monster earthmovers any more.

Intersting comments. I've never run a white rotary but I've heard some good things about them too. I've also heard that Agco is working on just such a combine. I guess they plan on introducing it in '03 or '04. Supposed to be larger than Class VII machine.

Farmer here in Ontario,Canada has White combines 9700 and 9520.The 9700 had 4000hrs on it when he rebuilt it,the engine has worn out so he replaced it with 400hp 855cu Cummins(mounted it crosswise) and converted most of the mechanical drive systems to hydraulic drive (rotor, thresher, strawchopper, unloading augar, etc). He says he doesn't have to slow down on hills and soft ground now also says the combine is up to date and has the capacity of the new ones of today but this was before JD STS came out.He liked the power so much he put a l10 300hp Cummins in the 9520.I have his phone number if want to ask him about his combines.

A farmer in our area has had the White_MF combine for years - during the bounty times of JD a couple of years ago( better deals on red trades than green)he was conned into trading one of Whites for a 9750sts - hates it - he still has a 20 year old White 9700 with Cummins and he drives this one. Heard AGCO may be bring that one back or will it be a red or orange ClaasIJIJIJ

If these combines had a contour master, a 20 ft unloading auger, and an l10 cummins engine they would run with any combine today. I still marvel at the size of these things over 20 years later. It's too bad white didnt have more money behind them.

I second that motion. I don't think any combine except the 9600_9610 comes as close to its size. I'm not sure, but the White 9700 may outweigh the Deeres. I think their weight as well as their size was too much for many custom combiners 20 years ago. It was all most could do to handle the 8820 or even the 760_860. I don't know about a Contour Master, but that new improved rotor I've seen should make the big Whites the largest capacity combines in the world so far. I'm just baffled, though, that the majority of these super-big combines is not in west Kansas or Nebraska, but in the northeast US where the farms are supposed to be much smaller.
