Are you going to get rid of your red machine, or just add to the fleetIJ I saw on the red page, you were considering going to a newer 88 series machine, what changed your mindIJ I like your train of thought on the horsepower thing, not everyone wants or needs so much power. Especially at the current fuel price. We are currently running a navistar powered 1680 and we hire in another machine to do about 40% of our acreage. But now he is getting a little busy with his own rotation and we may be looking for a second machine. The new holland is deffinately on top of our list, as we have a new small dealer in town. They dont have a lot of combine support yet, but they have an extremely good parts man and service staff. I think a lot of the reson you see depressed values in certain makes and models has to do more with internal politics more so than any product problems. You'll notice this came about soon after the dust settled from the new holland and case merger. The factorys have too much power over the retail dealer now days. Even an independant dealer has to conform to their rules or risk loosing support. I dont know what crops you raise but if you are considering a new holland, dont stop the research. Sometimes what is considered to be an underdog can turn out to be just the right machine for certain operations.

I guess it is obvious we are shopping hard right now! We are now torn between a decent 92 1680 and a really good looking TX66. The only difference in our mind is whether it is worth the extra moneyIJ We don't need any problems with a new machine. It doesn't look like a year that we can jump to a 2188 or TX68. If NH is going to abandon the TX line I can't seem to think that is a good investment either. Am I wrongIJ

No, you're not wrong. My opinions are just that, an opinion. But I look at it this way, new holland is a massively huge corp. It doubtful that they would completely abanden something that cost that much to support for this long. like any other brand, they will probably make some changes and put a different number on it. In the same way you could say case abandened they're machine when they went to the 8010. Its still basicly the same concept, just has a few new changes. Do you have any neighbors that run a new hollandIJ What kind of dealer support is local to youIJ I talked to our nieghbor about his tx yesterday, and he would'nt trade it for anything. He runs it side by side with a 9600 JD, Both great machines. He said the simplicity of changeover from crop to crop is great. And one of the resons he started to consider the new holland was that he could pick it up for a lot less than case or deere. He does all his own repairs and modifications, and so far anyway, the cost of ownership has been very acceptable. I wish you much luck on whatever decision you make. let us know what you decide and why, if you would please.

It is obvious. After the new CX was launched the old TX must go down in price. Competitors are mowing ahead as well. From what I know NH are going to stop producing TX for Europe after TIER III regulations will bee mandatory (they dont want to work on new engine for TX) this may be another reason to go down with price to compensate a drop down of resale value. The only one question: is discount big enough. If the price ok I would go for it. TX was probably the most successful and reliable NH combine. At least we newer had any serious problems with TX.

There are actually quite a few TX's around but small numbers compared to the green and red, however having run one for years with and around the competion, the neighbours shake their heads and admit their machines won't do what the yellow fellow will.If the price comes down that makes the guys that already own one wince a bit but if you are looking to buy it just means more bang for the buck, especially when you look at all the features they have too. When you get them dialled in the performance and sample quality will leave a 9600 so far behind it's hard to believe.

Alot of older models have had their prices drop. This is also happening to alot of the TR's out there. I bought a TR86 from a dealer about 250 miles away because it was half the price of what they have been around home here. I have seen a few others advertised near the same price lately but at other dealers the price remains high. Alot of it has to do with having new series out. Dealers are selling more CR's being the first few years than they have TR's for some time, so they have more used TR combines around. I've also noticed that while Deere dealer prices on 9000 series have gone up some since last year their prices on 20 series have dropped by about half or more overall.
