Combines Why Draper is Better Than Flex Head

I posted below that we have a neighbor that can run as fast with a 36' draper as he can with a 30' auger header (two identical 2388's). He swears that the reason is that the draper feeds the crop in "heads first" with much less twisting and the like in the crop mat. I have ridden with him in both Wheat and Milo and I have to say that all the plants were laying on the draper canvas straight and true, and did indeed feed into the feeder house almost perfectly "heads first". There definitely has to be an advantage over all the twisting that an auger header does getting the crop to the center. I have not seen one in beans, but I can imagine that this feeding would carry over to any crop. If we ever get rid of our 25' 1010 we will probably buy a 30' draper.

Ive heard they do good in beans and i watched one in beans (wish i could have rode in it..) It looked very smooth we are looking to get one possibly this fall so trust me i'll let ya guys hear it

why doa lot of teh custom cutters still have flex headers as well as drapers if they do so well in beansIJ I like all mine cut off not just part.

Excelent point Tony all the custom guys I know have flex for beans and draper for wheat. The guy I know of is thinking of trading his new Case draper for a flex cause he to wants all his beans cut.

Maybe not everyone has money to throw around and why replace a head if its workingIJIJIJ Ive watched a 36ft draper in tall and short beans i guess im missing where its doing a bad job atIJ I also like the fact that i won't have to worry about the auger bending anymore Seem to have some issues with that on the 30 ft 1020 heads last couple years whenever ive ran the head i try to keep it really close to the ground when in gear and thats seemed to help wish case would have told me that sooner

Are beans a bulky crop like peas areIJIJIJ If they are, you could tell them to equip it with a "pea auger" option. They help keep bulky crops such as peas on the canvases, and not crowding over the top of the table.

I have never bent one and Ive had about dozen all the way from 20 to 30ft, broke some fingers in the middle but thats it. Put on a air real and feed just as good as a draper. The two people I know of that tryed them one was a macdon flex and that one has been replaced bye a 1020 the other is a Case Macdon and he is thinking about trading it for 2020 because of the loss in soybeans. They both said it worked great in wheat. So people have to decide what crop takes priority.
