less parts per row , you can weld up the rolls , I'll agree the Deere doesn't chew the stalks up as much as the CIH but that isn't a problem for me , cattle run on a lot of mine . There are 3 Deere heads on CIH within a mile of here , they are all happy . I'm running a '78 643 on a 1660 , bought it on my 7700 , also used it on a UNI to pick seedcorn . I never did buy a set of rolls , just weld them up every 3-4 years , put new chains on reverse the sprockets and go . Biggest problem I've had it that famous gear that goes out in the gearbox , been through 4 of them .
