Combines Why would you need a 5 row corn headerIJ

My relatives in Texas tell me that they have seen a 10 row planter in cotton fields and a 5 row cotton picker. I don't know the row spacing, but if it's 36", and that farmer wanted to plant corn with the same planter, there's a customer for the 5 row 36" corn head. Didn't Deere make a 544 row crop head for 5 36" rowsIJ

I meant a JD 554 row crop head. The 544 would be a corn head.

Does anyone make a 10r 30" corn headIJ It would be a logical planter size and would need a head to match.

Several years ago I saw on a dealer's lot an older 11 row Allis Chalmers planter with air. Now how would you match up a row_corn header for thatIJ

If you plant eight row wide and your combine isn't big enough for an eight row head this would be a good size for it. The combines now will straddle 3 wide rows. This way you are not driving over the corn stalks and ruining tires.

I thought it was maybe used for seed corn (male_female rows)IJ I know Iowa State had a 5 row JD at their agronomy research farm west of Ames for many years.

I've seen a few of those around here recently on auction. All of them so far have been set up to plant beans on 16" rows, which is a match for a 15' flex head. At every farm where one of those AC planters has been auctioned, there was also a separate corn planter set for either 30" or 36" rows.

I have a neighbor who runs a JD 95-when he went from 38" to 30" rows, he took his 444 cornhead to the Bish people in central Nebraska and they narrowed up the units and added one to make it a 5 row head. Works and looks like a factory job!! From what I understand they make just about any size-configuration head you would want!!
