Massey has both slotted and solid filler bars available. The slotted ones are intended for the concaves with wide spaced wires (intended for corn, beans etc.) to simulate a concave with narrow spaced wires (intended for small grain, such as wheat oats, barely etc.). The solid fillers bars are intended to be used in the first few spaces to increase thrashing under tough conditions. For small seeded crops (clover, alfalfa etc.) you can fill all the spaces with solid filler bars for thorough thrashing, which will force all the material up to the walkers, as walker losses in the small seeded crops are minimal.
