Combines Wide spaced large wire concaves in 9760

DARRYl read posting just bought 9750 need advise.to heed the advise could be worth while the problems are real.

I harvest all of the same crops with 9660's only we use small wire concaves with covers inserted on the spring wheat only if it's hard to thresh. We recently finished the peas and had less than 1% dock. We use round bars in soys and corn. We never have used large wire concaves. In sunflowers we also use small wire or round bar!

You guys talk about grain sample- I would be just as interested in the grain loss out the back which I never here talked about on the JD page i.e. don't run the crop through the chopper, I think you will be surprised at the amount of loss you will see without the chopper hiding it.

Each year I checked loss behind our JD combines which include a 8820, CTS, and 9760 STS. Crop loss has always been low enough to be insignificant.

Take that STS and roll the chopper. Congrats if it save grain you got a magic combine or uour the man. Not starting any crap but the ones that have them here say the STS is har to save grain with

Drop the spreader on your silver seeder and see the trail on the ground. You have no room to talk.

Wheaty1, When you harvested peas with the small wire concaves did you remove any of the wiresIJ How many cracks did you have in your peasIJ I bought a 2004 machine and have read the operaters manual, but a lot of ideas on combine settings change the longer a machine has been used. Not sure if the settings in 2006 would be the same as in 2004. On the case rotaries, we used to put in the wide spaced concaves for peas and barley, thought maybe it would be the same for the sts machines. Thanks everyone for the replies!

We had very few cracks. We were also using a walker machine with the sts's and it had a nice sample also but the sts was alot less cracks and trash. I only removed the concave covers and left all wires in. I opened the concave to 23 and ran the rotor at 380 to 400 rpm. Try the wide space concave and see if it's acceptable to you. The wide space should do a nice job, only you might need to put concave covers in for the hard to thresh crops and maybe higher rotor speeds in wheat! The peas stood up nice this year and were enjoyable to cut used rigid heads intead of flex's, I'm sure next year will be different! We also lifted are choppers on the sts's and rolled it ahead on the walker and had a neighbor bale the stems. There were very few peas on the ground behind any of machines. Enjoy your purchase, we have had nothing but good luck with our sts's and our walkers and have always been satisfied with the machines. Most people that complain about any machine bought someone elses abused, neglected machine and think that it's going to run like a new one! good luck and have a safe bountiful harvest!

I did drop the choppper. Had to do that to bale straw. Any time you want to come out to my farm and check behind my combine feel free to. And I don't see any JD people on the Gleaner board telling everybody their silver seeders can't clean grain. And if there was, there would be a lot more ruckus and then what has gone on here. So yes in my opinion you are trying to start crap.
