We have a 1660 with a 25' 1010. In 30 to 40 bushel wheat we can go 4 MPH plus or minus a little. So, would it handle a 30 foot header, I believe that it would if you were comfortable with 3 mph or so. As for comparison to the John Deeres, a 1660 is class 5 and compares to a 9500 very well. We cut with a neighbor's 9500 last year and they were very comparable. I think that the 1660 took the straw better (wheat was on the ground and we were cutting 1" to 2"). All in all, very comparable. Thank you for the input. I can buy a 1660 with 1740 or so engine hours w_ a 1010 30' header for $36,000 delivered . Is that a good dealIJ the bank said book was around 45,000 (I think for the header and machine) I think its a good deal what do you all thinkIJ

Also, is there any "tune ups" to get a little more snuce out of a 1660, without hurting the combineIJ

That is the tough question to answer, there are so many things to factor in. Condition, warranty, dealer reputation, your finances, etc. With that said, we bought a 1989 (DT 466 engine) with 2200 hours and a 25' 1010 for 28K three years ago.
