Nope, I was afraid of the same thing too. I installed a AWS system that has the air tubes out front. No problems at all. Run in rowed beans and drilled beans, bush and stalk type with no trouble. Moisture run from 10 -18%. I still am a little concerned about hailed on beans though. Seems like once they have been hailed on you just look at them and they drop'em on the ground! Any brand air system will pay for it's self fast. 2-4 bushel_acre increase in yield.

Thank you, Nod. I think I will start looking for an air reel, although I still wonder if it matters whether you use the crary or aws. I know what you mean about hailed out beans.. I had about a hundred acres of them with 30 bu. on the ground. They were in 30" rows and I used a row head and they still made 20. Really looked ugly and I was sick of looking at all the white on the ground. lucky I had crc. GS

Greenstrat, I run a Crary Air Finger Reel. I was concerned about the same thing you are before I got it. I've run it in 70 bpa irr. beans and drought stressed 7 pba beans, and can say that I've never seen a bean shatter from the manifold. And like nod said in the post below it will sure save you 2 to 4 bpa.

Crary Company makes to types of air reels the first and most popular is the air finger reel and the second is the new CWS Crary Wind System (basically identical to AWS only cheaper) I purchased a new CWS to put on my flex and between my own and custom work I combined 1300 acres of which almost 700 had been hailed on and I cannot say there was anymore header loss on the hailed beans than the other ones. To answer your question about which one to buy it depends on what you are going to put it on if you are going to purchase a brand new flex head (minus reel) buy the air finger reel if putting on an older head go with the CWS or AWS much cheaper than the the air finger reel any other question e-mail Dennis
