steamboat will, I think the hose trick would work just as good on our 1020 red headers as it does on the Gleaner headers. Only I would not use a three inch hose like the Geaner guys use because the 1020 header has that 1 and 1_4" rise built in just behind the cutter bar. I have not looked at a Gleaner header for several years but I don't think the Gleaner flex header has that. I would start out with about a 2" hose on a 1020 header. K.A.

Yes, the hose mod should work on any color. The poster below might have a point though if your head has a rise behind the cutterbar. Actually, the hose mod was designed to help eliminate feeding problems in short beans. We don't seem to have much trouble with the taller ones. What it does is this - when those short beans are cut, they fall onto the hose which puts them 3" or so closer to the reel which sweeps them in with each bat that comes around instead of them piling up until the reel can sweep the whole pile in at once. An I'm sure you know what happens next! Since installing the hose mod, we only plug the feederhouse once or twice each season instead of each round! However, there are a few guys on here that have tried it and didn't have good luck too. But it isn't too expensive to give it a try. BTW, you are welcome here on Gleaner Talk any time! Steamboat, Unit 2 is correct,do not use anything larger than 2" on a red head. Also,make sure that you have hose or PVC mounted down tight to header.Do know of a farmer with a 1020 head that had the PVC mounted slightly off the floor and stems would get caught under it creating even more problems. Got a 24 ft header with hose mod and a 20 ft with a Johnson rock guard. The johnson works better in short beans.

Get a vibramat. It's a piece of vinyl 30ft in length and is about 8 inches in width. Simply cut it to the width of your front and attach it to the knife. As it moves back and forth with the knife, this makes a moving surface that shakes the crop down to the table auger. Can be attached to any make of front. Simple idea that works great.

Had trouble with rigid heads one year where we could not get straw from cutter bar to auger. We made brackets to fasten a mat just like you explane to sickle and it worked great. Ended up doing at least three headers. Took off after season and haven't had that condition since. Touble is when we got straw under auger it spun right around the back. Thats when we fastened at least one and in some cases two more channel bars under auger to act of strippers. Made them old headers work very well. Where did this vibramat come fromIJ We used UHMW and that would be a little heavy to leave fastened to sickle on the Flex head.
