New versus used machinery

We won't always afford brand new machinery, and so most of us opt for second-hand machines that are usually easier to maintain. What are the pros and cons of going with either of these options?

Pro - already broken in. Con - could have been mishandled.
We most times buy used but we make sure we look them over real good first. My husband is a mechanic by trade.

It depends on the brand, the materials used in manufacturing, the country it was made in, and the year. More often than not, I go for the old stuff because the market today is filled with machinery that was made with lots of plastic and designed to breakdown. No thanks!

Used machinery offers a lot of value, especially tractors. My first two tractors were vintage tractors that I got for really good prices and they serve me well. I also have bought most of my tractor implements used and saved a lot of money.

There are many pros and cons here, but you get higher value by purchasing new machinery and get to spend more. However, a farmer can still buy used machinery and get a good bargain.

I think it makes a difference when a farmer is patient and knows where and when to get used machinery. It is easy to rush and purchase machinery that won't offer value.
