What is everyone's opinion on Monsanto? Are they the corporate monster that just barreled their way into the industry and took what they wanted? Or have they been beneficial to the industry?
The county and state fairs in my area have been the most useful for me. The state fair especially since you have vendors and farmers in one place from the entire state. More variety = more opportunity.
I kind of forgot about the networking aspect. That makes sense though when you have so many people from one "field" of business in one place. Like a convention where you buy things.
The best use for herbs, that I can remember from childhood, is that they give sauces an extra "layer" of flavor. I think they would grow well in a planter that you put them right outside a kitchen window.

It works for quite a few people here in the U.S. for their own personal benefit. People seem to be tired of the fluctuating costs of eggs and question the quality of the meat, so they keep chickens in their yards. If that isn't the definition of hobby farming.............
There is also the cost/benefit aspect. Are you literally going to get your money's worth? The mechanical aspect is important, no doubt, but if you're going to operate in the red because of what you paid for it then it won't matter how mechanically sound it is.
