    Where's The Beef?

We are okay for meat for another couple of weeks. I buy it in bulk whenever I can. I have a very large freezer in my basement where I store meat until we need it.

    Fire Extinguishers for the Farm

I think it's definitely a good idea to have an extinguisher for your barn. Maybe even two or three if your barn is large. That way, you'll always be able to get to an extinguisher quickly if a fire breaks out.

    Keeping farm animals cool

I put out extra watering troughs for our cows. I also fill plastic containers with water, and freeze them overnight. In the late morning when it starts to get hot, I take the plastic containers, and pop the ice out of them and put the ice blocks into the cows' troughs. It helps keep the water a...

    Do like going for....

I love how nice the weather has been recently. I love to go out and enjoy the blue sky and sunshine. I try to set aside a little time each day for a walk to just enjoy nature.

Do you always go to the service shop?

My husband taught me how to change the oil and oil filter in our tractors. It's not too difficult. You just need to be sure to get the correct oil and oil filter for your specific tractor.

I'll help and give you 101%.

That's a cool offer. I know that many farmers could use a hand around the farm, especially right now. I am sure that someone will really appreciate what you are offering. I wish you the very best in this endeavor.

    Getting Rid of Aphids Naturally?

Last year, I had a real problem with aphids in my garden. As I'm sure many of you know, they multiply so fast and can easily become an out-of-control problem. I don't like the idea of spraying my plants and vegetables with insecticides. Does anyone know of natural ways in which I can prevent...

Livestock Auctions Are An Essntial Business

They are definitely essential. I think as long as people are social distancing, there is no need to cancel livestock auctions. I wouldn't blame some people if they would rather hold auctions online right now, though, either.

To buy or to rent a farm?

I think it depends on what your goals are as well as how much you have to spend. If you buy land, I'd start small. That way, you can learn as you grow. Starting small will allow you to experiment and learn what works and what doesn't for you. It's easier to rent, of course, because you aren't...

    Spreading Cheer to Seniors

That is a fantastic idea! I think I'll steal that one and have my kids do some artwork for our local nursing homes, too. It has to be especially tough on the residents these days, not being able to see their families and friends.

    Gardening Video Tutorials

A lot of my friends have been interested in starting their own gardens for some time but just never felt they had the time to do so. With many of them out of work right now, they have bought seeds and are planning to start their gardens soon. I wast thinking about putting together some video...

    Good to be us

I was at the store the other day. It's crazy how many products were cleared out. I am really happy that I have a huge freezer where I keep a lot of meat. I also canned fruits and vegetables last year. We are pretty set for food for a little while.

Do you drink unpasteurized milk from your goats/cows?

I don't drink unpasteurized milk, either. There is just too much bacteria in there. I don't want to risk getting sick. We have plenty of access to pasteurized milk, so there's no need to drink unpasteurized.

    Separate Homes for Baby Calves

We do separate our calves from their mothers shortly after they're born. We do this because we don't want the moms stepping on their babies accidentally. We house the babies in a different part of the barn for about two months before we reintegrate them with their mothers.

    Virtual Farm Tours

Our kids' school shut down, so they are home with me for at least the next few weeks - maybe longer. The school is doing some virtual/online teaching, but the kids are missing their extracurricular activities. I know they are probably going to get bored seeing as they can't participate in sports...

Going on a vacation with a farm

I've taken a few small trips, but they are only for a couple of days at a time. I often ask a neighbor to watch over my farm and feed my livestock while I'm gone. I compensate them, of course, and they know that I'll return the favor if they want to leave town for a couple of days.

Chicks, ducklings, and bunnies as Easter gifts

I would have a hard time selling baby animals to people I don't know well around Easter because I hear all the stories about how the chicks, ducks, rabbits, etc are left at shelters after the excitement is over. If I ever sold animals to people at Easter, it would have to be someone I knew well...

How To Get Rid Of Skunk Smell In Garage

You can also try to get rid of the smell with vinegar. Put bowls of vinegar around your garage, and leave them there for 24 hours. The vinegar will absorb the skunk smell. You can mix the vinegar with baking soda or dish soap or just use it by itself.

Keeping Rabbits Out of the Garden

One of the most basic ways to protect your garden from rabbits is to build a fence around it. It has to be at least two feet high, though, because otherwise rabbits can just jump right over it. You'll also need to bury the fence at least six inches underground or rabbits can burrow their way...

    African Violets

I really love the beautiful color of African violets. I'm going to try to grow a couple in the house, but I've heard that they are fussy plants. Do you all have suggestions or advice on how to care for them so they stay healthy and bloom? If I can successfully take care of a couple, I'll invest...
