I'd just go ahead then and replace that switch. It doesn't cost much (probably under $20) and it isn't safe to jump the engine over time. Safety first and glad you got it going.
go to an auto parts store or SEARs and buy a remote starter switch it will hook to the starter with clips and you can hang it somewhere out of the way until you have time to fix it right.
