Combines 1688

John: Yes the grain scan monitors do work. The flashing lights only indicate that the sensor pads are working. First thing to do is turn the monitor OFF, then set your combine for acceptable loss. THEN turn the grain scan on and adjust it so that the needle reads in the green when combining at normal speeds.

Kind of depends on what rotor you have and how clean you want the sample to be. With the proper setup I'm guessing around 5-5.5 mphIJ

well it has the specialty rotor in it and we really aren't worried that much bout the sample but anything over 4mph would be fine

You'll want to cover up the first 1-1_2 concaves (or maybe even the first 2 concaves) to get more aggressive threshing from the Specialty rotor. look at the Gorden cover plates, we use 3 of them. You will probably need to drive faster than 4mph to keep the machine full in 35-40 bu wheat. Rotor machines like to be kept full.

Just wandering: When you harvest wheat do you run the header with automatic height control or do you raise and lower the header manuallyIJ Have a safe harvest. JWK

The common way to cut standing wheat is with a rigid head and to manually control the height.

Check the 3rd gear lockout micro switch. You should see it in the 3rd gear shift slot in the cab (a small wire). The shift lever presses against it when 3rd gear is selected and locks out high range in roadgear.

On the lights, there is a multipin connector under the door on the right side of the cab. Several of the wires I believe are red w_white. Check the contacts. One of the pins provides power for the three left side lights. Cable will be running from the relay bank located on back wall below a set of circuit breakers(I think that's what they are)into wiring harness then out to this connector and up the back of cab. Just got through chasing same problem in my 1680. Aggravating to track down.
