Combines 1688

I can't think of anything that would vibrate the cab other than the tires or an unbalanced rotor. Since it is tied to ground speed, I guess tires. As for air pressure, if you can tell me what size and type they are I can give you the recommended air pressure for your load. The most accurate way to get the load is to run one wheel across a scale when it full of grain, but that may not be practical. If you have 30.5X32's, you could probably just air them up to the max pressure shown on the sidewall. The 2 speed hydro has an electric solenoid valve that controls two pistons. The pistons change the angle of the swash plate. I think your problem is most likely electrical. Maybe start with a mutimeter and look at the voltage going to the solenoidIJ Mike

I looked pretty hard for a clean 1688 last year. I wanted the 2 sp hydo and 4 wd, which narrowed the field a lot. However, what I decided was that a 1688 brings about as much as a 2188. We ended up with a '96 2188 and are happy with it. In some ways I like the old machines better, they are just plain simpler. However, the electronics on the newer machines have a pretty good reputation. I would look for a '92 1680, any 1688, or a '97 2188 as the "pick of the litter".

Not sure what your harvesting with the 30' head but if it is 40 to 50 bu. winter wheat count on 14 to 15 acres per hr. with a crain cart and about 70% of that with out one. In 180 bu. corn you should get 2000 to 2500 bu. per hr with a cart and about half that without one.

how fast are you goingIJ lots of straw IJ I just put in one of gordan air jet chaffers I think it has incresed my capsity a little the sample is wayyy cleaner I can run the concave more open and the roter slower seems to help on power . I can go about 3.6 peak out at 4.0 that is true gps speed my speedometer must me geared for diferent tires because it reades slower... if all else fails I am sure theres guys on here that can tell you hot to turn up your pump a little ...

This will be my forth season on a 1688. The first it seemed very powerful, but now that I push it harder it seems a bit low on hp. I had the mechanical lift pump checked it only had 5 psi replaced it and had 40. I was really looking forward to wheat, but still doggy! Changed fuel filters no help either. The pump is getting two turns before this fall. Mine will hardly smoke at all which after talking to some people I think it's just not getting enough fuel. I agree with you, it should easily beat a 9500!

The capacity of an axial-flow can be frustrating in heavy wheat crops, however, I can just about guarantee you that the 9500 is throwing quite a bit of grain over if it is going faster than you. About the only thing I can tell you is that our 2188 runs at 2520 rpm high idle, you should get a boost if you adjust the high idle stop on the pump and_or adjust the cable to achieve that rpm.

Something is wrong there! I ran a 1680 beside a 9500 in milo years ago and beat him by at least a third more bushels_acres per hour. . . and I didn't have flour behind the 1680 either!

What is your ground speedIJ If that 9500 is running a 30' head in 60 bu. wheat, he's dumping wheat over the walkers at anything over 2.5 mph. Power will not be his limiting factor.
