Combines 2001 R62 Fuel ProblemIJIJIJ

We have had same problem with fuel. Filter may not fix it. our problem was in the tank strainer ;full of plastic chips from tank being manufactured. Dealer was told bad batch of tanks. Ours is also 2001 R-62. We put air in tank to blow strainer apart after several failed attempts to wash tank out. Also clean strainer under engine-very fine mesh. Fuel filter is almost 70 bucks from wix --has a sensor on bottom. May take several cleanings. Good luck. Any body had any hydro problemsIJ Think ours let go today;it's growling bad and blowing oil out reservoir breather. Won't move fwd. or back. Any thoughts appreciated. thanks;Brooks

Posum, You're right that was it. The strainer on the engine deck was full. I'm not sure what it was though. I don't really think it was plastic chips unless the diesel had broken them down or something. It was kind of a black scum. Anyway, cleaned her out and it is a new machine! We have not had hydro problems on any Glenaer we have ever owned (knocking wood furiously). Thanks, OKFarmer

Black scum sounds like fuel aglae or bacteria... Might be best to run a dose of fuel treatment through for good measure.

Had the samwe problem on 2002 R62. The screen in the fuel tank was pluged with plastic and remains of a mouse. He could only have gotten in there at the factory. I took screen off and added a NAPA fuel tank filter base and filter in line under the cab where its easy to change. They are cheap and they filter out most of the stuff before it gets to the regular engine filters. No problems since

Glad you got it going by cleaning the inline screen. We've seen this a few times but it allways put up an error on the display and don't remember them mentioning the wait to start light comig on. I believe the error number it put out was pointing to high pressure CAPS and the screen was plugged. It is sometimes tough to get it to come up but if you the left and right knob on tack unit quickly after first turning on the key it should display errors. I believe you can then cycle between inactive and active errors by turning left knob. I'd have to double check this if you can't get anything to come up. Cycling key switch on and off very quickly about three times was supposed to clear error codes in tack unit and would likely have to have Cummmins clear the errors in their engine mounted controler. Anyway another thing to check on these QSCs is the atmospheric pressure sender just above electric lift pump. It is fastened flat onto metal and dust can get behind it causing pressure on diaphram. I just blow the dirt out of it and it goes back to working properly. Another weird problem I heard from tbran at one time was the turbo charger wheel was rubbed out enough to prevent enough boost to allow full fuel delievery. I believe he had saw this on mechanical C series and electronic QSCs.

That would be weird to have oil come out breather unless it was overfilled or maybe charge pump seal or hoses between tank and pump sucking air. A whole lot of foaming oil from air could shut you down or cause a secondary problem. Was oil level or oil temp light onIJ Hope you got it going by now. Good luck

NDDan, Is there a list of the possible codes and what they mean somewhereIJ She is running great and has lots of power. More than its had since we had the machine. But, yesterday it just cut out for a second, and then came back to life. Never did it again. Weird stuff. Thanks for the help!!! OKFarmer

Hi Dan; turned out the drive pulley on drive shaft for hydro sheared the splines out of the pulley. The shaft seems ok. Still dosen't explain the foaming. Tbran thinks possible rwd motor failure allowing oil to bypass to reservoir. I did not see this as pulley spining on shaft looked like hydro failure. Will check out rwd out after Tim sends pulley.
