Combines 2188 Transmission

CaseIH has long had this 2nd gear problem. The first and simple check is to make sure there's not MOG in the linkage. If there is a build up it will act just like a spring and eventually pop you out of 2nd. If this is not the problem or if it has been a problem too long, the gears can become worn and need replaced. As to whether CIH will replace them . . .well, best wishes to you! It never hurts to ask though.

I think that in the context it was used, Material Other than Grain is the correct meaning. It's a pretty standard term, but I'm not sure where it originated.

there was an issue on 21 and 23's that the linkage was not putting the gears in detent position. might want to check that out also. reworked one transmission on account of that.

The others are right - Material Other than Grain. In other words straw and chaff.

I've rebuilt three trannys in two combines over the last four years both are early 1995 2188's like the other guy says check for crap in the linkage and once in awhile get out and make sure it is second gear. This is not all that hard of a job.I have rebuilt one in a pasture before. Four grand seems a little steep unless you have trashed the ring and pinion or third and first gear also. I would remove the tranny myself and then take it to the dealer this would same some money also. Good luck. This is a job that is better done in the winter than in the fall. Will

he is right these transmissions are very easily fixed,ive had several apart and to me the hardest part is taking them out and putting them back in.
