If you're farming that much at night and on weekends you don't have a lot of time to spare. You don't need to be sitting around making repairs when you need to be running. New machinery may not pencil out, but with a full time job it may work okay for you. It all comes down to the fact that you have to get the job done in a timely manner or you stand to loose a lot due to weather, etc, etc. You pay now or you pay later. And wouldn't you rather pay now and have a new, mostly trouble-free machine and avoid all the stress of breakdowns and watching some of the crop be lost due to unnecessary delaysIJ

like the fellow posted before, new equipment does not pencil out. If your working most of the time, why not keep the 2166, and hire for what you cannot do.

A side job changes things greatly. You don't have to show a big profit on the farm and a combine would then be a nice write off. Times are too tough to just rely on farming.

The write off at tax time is a big plus for me. Marv also hit on a good point, with a new machine the breakdowns should be less.Even if it doesnt pencil out,it means less grey hairs showing up on my head, and a more enjoyable time in the cab.
