Sparky my thread didn't read very well. I didn't intend to insult anybody. I apologize if it was taken wrong.

lucky would be never having the thing catch on fire. I am just prepared. I keep four big fire extinguishers mounted on the combine. I have one on the side of the cab by the door, one on the platform in front of the engine. One back by the tool box, and another back by the fuel tank. I also keep one on each tractor, and one in the cab of each grain truck, and the pickup. I personally have never cooked a combine, but I know plenty of people who have. Our local dealership usually has five or six burned out combines sitting on the back lot for parts. A couple of years ago a friend of mine lost a nice 4440 when the battery cable shorted out under the cab, and burned the tractor as well as a brand new Maxemerge Vacumeter planter that was hooked to it. Several years ago my neighbors across the road had an l model Gleaner that caught on fire and set a wheat field on fire. They managed to save the combine, but lost about 25 or 30 acres of wheat before the fire dept got it put out. One of those big dry chemical fire extinguishers will smother a lot of fire. A couple of years ago I was working in one of my fields that is behind a row of houses and a terrified lady came running out to my tractor and asked if I could please come help her put out a fire. One side of her kitchen was engulfed in flames from a grease fire. When I walked in and saw that fire I didn't think there was much hope of stopping it. Surprisingly I put the entire kitchen out with the one big fire extinguisher that I had on the tractor. It was a good thing too because the Vol fire dept. took a wrong turn and did not get there for 15 minutes.
