Have no experience but from what has been said here before, the direct drive is the only thing that will hold up to that power hungry head.

last year I ran an early N5 with a 630PC geringhoff. The combine had constant speed already on it,andfrom everyone I have talked to said either run constant speed or I now have a John Deere 9500 I am putting this head on and I was told an oil cooler is a must. The fastest I could go was between 3.5 and 3.7 mph or I would break the drive belts. I never had any problem with the eletric clutch.

I also forgot, you may want to check you driven sprockets to make sure you have the right one so the rotors are spinning fast enough. If you do need sprockets I still have my old one and will sell them for half of new plus shipping. I am not sure how many teeth there is on them but i could find them and let you know if needed. Thanks Jer

Yes, I was breaking direct drive belts. This was happening in wet high yielding corn. Check your sprockets, I believe they had 16 teeth on the driven and 13 on the driver but I could be mistaken. The only other option is to change over the constant speed, and be happy with 3.5 to 4.0 mph. I talked to a few dealers and they told me not to push these heads, because the combine can't handle it. Every dealer I talked to said these heads are great but don't push the combine!! There is a few other checks to do and that is the clearances from rotor to concave on the head which I already assumed you had done. I beleive it is supposed to be 2.5mm at the top and 1.5mm near the bottom. If these clearances are not met the corn head will call for more power.
