Combines 8070 engine kits

Obviously a less than enviable position. For starters the tractor is worth only scrap value in its current shape. If the appearance, rubber, etc are in very good shape under 5000 total hours it may be worth $10K if it is FWA. If it is a rough tractor with poor rubber $5K may be more realistic. Market value of a good 8070FWA is probably in the low 20's. You may find a salvage engine somewhere for a couple thousand, but it will be just that..a salvage motor. I would think you could get a reman 426 in the $6-7K range plus installation you will probably be pushing a $10,000 bill. The Cummins kits are real nice but will come in at a price nearing $15K. So I think the question you have to answer first is are you wanting to keep the tractorIJ If not I'd go to your AGCO dealer and see what he will offer for your blown unit. He may be able to use the offseason work and will be able to sell with some type of engine warranty. lick your wounds and go on. If you want to keep it and it's not your main horse or you only put 100-200 hours per year I'd go back to the 426. You'll easily get another 4000+ hours out of it. If it is your main horse and you put 300 plus hours a year you may consider the Cummins. The fuel savings on that many hours will help offset the cost.

I don't envy your situation but if the tractor has 9000 hrs on it I would not consider reparing it. Way to many other things that could be about to wear out. As far as repacements for it, if you don't want to purchase new look around for a used DT180 or DT200 there are some out there. like some of the others said its a tough call and your the one who has to pay the bills.
