Combines 8780 purchase

The STS actually means Save The Store through increased parts and service. John Deere doesn't have resale value any more so that is not a viable excuse (never was any way). I have heard it said that the STS design was looked at by Massey several years ago and was rejected. The 8780 should be an updated 8570. The XP with its' 285 hp motor should have good capacity plus a hydostatically driven rotor that is reversible. Kelly

Yes, I am slightly "biased". Hey, stop by Athol today and I will buy your dinner:). I think they will be serving "round" steak today. Kelly

are you looking at a 8780 or a 8780xp, there is a big differance between them. the 8780xp has more hp and a constant speed rotor. you might be able to upgrade the 8780 to 8780xp specs. i think you will be happy with either machine. we ran the small mf 8560 for 10 years with out any problems. have now traded up to a mf 8570. good luck with whatever you choose. neil

darnet.....your to late. I had to leave early this morning and goto Kearney and get tubes put in my ears. Oooooo that was a bit painful on the left one! I'll swing through again one of these days in the truck. I still plan on trucking for at least another month if all goes according to plan. BTW..I'm not convinced in the least those new deeres are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'm still likeing the cat's but this xp sure has my attention now. Darn shame midway went out of business in k-town. gotta go to Plainville now for parts and Toddy's mainly NH.

You will like the 8780 I am very happy with mine. The nieghbor next to me rented one for 100 hours. He ran it with his 9600 said it cuts everything his 9600 did and than some. He was cutting 120 bu. DNS wheat. In wheat use an airfiol chaffer it worked much better for me.

The XP is looked at by many farmers, and then gets REJECTED. BTW- last fall it was the Case IH dealership that gave us the best deal (begged us to trade) for our year old 9650 STS. We went for a new Green one anyways!!
