Why be so specific to a 9660 STSIJ It is well known that there have been many fires on STS machines - thankfully the vast majority have been very small with little to no damage but, there have been enough major fires to alarm not only the owners of the machines but JD as well. As an STS owner and with problems of fires on my machine, I know JD is trying to fix the problem(s). Trying to turn the Queen Mary 180 degrees takes an awful long time. Unfortunately, very large companies are not that dissimilar.

I guess I am wondering when you say investigating are you working for an insurance companyIJ Cause that is how it sounds. Next question are you or the insurance company trying to put the blame back on sombody else. My opinion farmer or custom operater has insurance has fire you pay. I would sure like to investigate you or your company you sure are not afraid to keep raising your rates. Hopefully nobody helps you out or they will be drug in to court case. JUST MY HONEST OPINION and I dont even care if J.D. gets sued just tired of insurance companys trying to blame sombody else. But I suppose you will say your just trying to keep rates down so your company can make more. And if your not an adjuster for insurance company I am sorry. I was requoted on my farm insurance today and I about had a heart failure on the cost.

I don't know who you are or why you want to know about fires on Deere combines but here is what I know. Because of these POS John Deere combines us Canadian Custom harvesters have to put some sort of fire supression device on our combines or we may not be able to get insurance. In my humble opinon Deere knows they have a huge problem with fires on their combines but are doing dick all about it. I have never owned or would I ever consider owning a POS Deere combine because of their inept enginering all us harvesters have to pay. I say if you want a Deere combine your premiums should be higher then if you own a diffrent combine. Guys I am sorry if I offend anyone but Insurance is a big deal in our business and because John Deere combines seem to have major problems with fires I am upset with that.. Our profits are slim enough in this business. For what I could insure 2 combines for, as little as 5 years ago it now costs more to have insursance for 1 and my broker as told me the main reason is because of the high losses incured from combine fires. And these fires were all on John Deere combines except one. The fires on the Deere's all started in the same place on the combine. As for the post with the the phone number to call about safety issues with Deere equipment. They might be concerned about your safety but Deere or any other company for that matter would just as easily pry your last dollar from your cold dead body to make a profit. Have a Nice Day

Its really not that big of a deal Big Al, just stay in Canada. I am sure no feelings would be hurt if you chose to stay in Canada. If American products are costing you, then maybe you shouldnt be making money off of our American wheat. Go run a fleet of quality Canadian made products.

Insurance is a big deal and it does not matter if you are a Canadian harvester or an American harvester it costs all of us more money in premiums because of John Deere's problems with their combines starting on fire. They know they have a problem but are not doing a whole lot to solve it. I am just frustrated because John Deere seems to think if you paint it green, put a Deere logo on it, people will buy it because of brand loyalty weather it is a good product or not, and the sad truth is they are right.

And just how do you know they are not trying to solve the problemIJ Also, Deere is not the only one to have fire problems. Particularly, the red ones also have had some troubles in the past with fires. And let's not forget that the first of 8010's had 8 fires in 100 machines. That kind of average did not help the insurance rates either. The fact is, Deere is trying to solve the problem. The '06 modle has reatly improved the air flow around the engine compartment to lessen the opportunity for fires to start. But the real problem is the heat created by the Tier III engine requirements to get the emissions lower. This requires the build up of heat to get the fuel burned completely and that in turn requires larger than previous cooling systems that are extremely difficult to design and keep the weight down. The more weight you have, the more horsepower you need to work and that drives right back to a bigger engine with more heat. All that said, there is no easier method to reduce the opportunity for fire on any color than by being very rigorous in keeping the machine clean. Want less fires, stop and clean off the machine for 15 minutes during the day and you will go a long way to keeping the fires at bay.
