Combines 970 vs 8010

I am by no means an expert on them, but I have shelled corn with both of them for a few hours. I myself being a New Holland person would take the CR970. Both can really combine a lot of acres, but I think the CR would have an edge on it's design being a little more proven. I don't see nothing worng with the 8010 and if you have a great CIH dealer it would be a great comine also. I don't know how they compare in priceIJ If dealers was equal and price the same it may be a tough choice, but you would not go worng with one or the other. Some people think the 8010 is just a repainted New Holland but they are much different, I think they only share the ground drive train and feeder house. Good luck. Ilnh

In my opinion, and it's only an opinion, this is a New Holand designed system. The CIH is shoehorned into it. The only real differences between the two, aside from the color of the paint, is the rotor and the drives. For this reason, all things else equal, I'd likely pick the 970. Just my .02

I spent about two days running a CR970 and 2 days running an 8010 it was in 125 bushel corn. I felt the CR 970 was alot more user friendly then the 8010 it also seemed more responsive with the steering as for capacity there was no difference. One thing though I don't think the CR has that sort of rethresher system for the tailings the 8010 does I think in time that could be a problem. For the record I own a 2003 2388.

Big al Hello there. You went out with one machine this last summerIJ How did that go. I am wanting to go from 3 down to a 970 0r an 8010 and keep 1 of my 2388s also. I was also considering just one big new one...

It was great we had a good run the crops were really good. I had help for one job in Kansas from a harvester friend of mine and the fall run was good also. The one machine thing was a great career move, for us anyway.

Well i am glad to hear that. My dad has wanted me to do that for a while. I think he is just ready to get out of the harvest and stay at home and just harvest locally. The othe question I forgot to ask was how did you like the afx 2388. I also thought about 2 new 2388s. Is there much more if any capacity with them. I like the idea of an 8010 or 970, but I have a couple good size jobs where just one wont do it. I team up with a friend on a couple bigger jobs througout the harvest and we have 5 machines when we get together so we pretty much have to have at least 4 between the 2 of us. I still think if your current farmers would be content you would sure make a lot more free and clear money the way you did it.....

There are a few more things different also. The return system and the straw chopper and chaff spreading is much different. I think the cleaning fan is a different type also. If I remember right I think they share about 60% of the same parts. Most of that would be the grain tank and unload system and the ground drive system. Much different on them if you look under the hood. Ilnh

The CR has a proven return system that the New Holland TX combines have had for ten years or so. I'm not sure how the 8010 return system will work also but it looked simple enough. I kind of like the hyd drives the 8010 has, it seems some people don't. I still think two rotors are better than one, should use more of the cleaning system that way. Ilnh

We are lucky that one of our biggest customers has 2 combines of his own and he wanted one more to help him out. As for the capacity of our 2388 it had more then our previous 2388 I liked the AFX rotor we never really had any real tough straw conditions to see how it would perform but just running later into the evening you didn't lose that 1_2 mph when the sun would go down. As for the " free and clear money" you may end up with a bit more but the big thing is you are not so dependent on hired help and that was probably the biggest reason we went to one machine.

The 8010 return system is very similar to what the old 410 massey's had.
